It’s that time of year again – the leaves are changing color, the days are getting shorter, and winter is just around the corner! Like most people, you’ll be using your home heating system to keep warm over the next few months. But before you turn on the heat for the first time this season, there are a few things you should do to prepare your heating system for winter. From changing air filters to scheduling heating repair in St. George, here’s what you need to do to get your home heating system ready for the colder months ahead.

    Change your air filters

One of the most important things you can do to prepare your heating system for winter is to change your air filters. Dirty air filters can restrict airflow, causing your heating system to work harder than it needs to. To ensure your heating system is running efficiently and your air is clean, change your air filters at least once every three months.

    Clean the vents

Another important heating maintenance task is to clean the vents. Vents clogged with dust and debris can restrict airflow and make it difficult for your heating system to do its job. To clean your vents, remove them from the wall or floor and vacuum out any dirt and debris.

    Check the thermostat

If you have a programmable thermostat, check it before the cold weather hits. Ensure the batteries are fresh and the thermostat is programmed to your desired temperature. If you don’t have a programmable thermostat, now might be a good time to invest in one. Programmable thermostats can help you save money on your heating bill by allowing you to set a schedule for when the heat should be turned on and off.

    Schedule heating repair

If your heating system isn’t working as well as it should, it’s a good idea to schedule a heating repair before the cold weather sets in. A qualified heating technician can diagnose and repair any problems with your heating system, ensuring it runs efficiently when you need it most.

Following these simple tips can help ensure that your heating system is ready for winter. If your heating problems persist after taking these steps, it may be time for a new furnace replacement. Newer furnaces are more efficient than ever and can help you save money on your heating bill.

Not sure if your heating system is up for the task? Contact a heating professional to get a system inspection to ensure everything is running smoothly. Call now!
